'Get back behind the lens'
.. but isn't that where we are most of the time? Honestly, not really.
Like many jobs, being a photographer requires a thousand things to do beyond taking pictures. Especially when you’re self-employed, particularly now in our modern era of editing, emailing, reeling, tweeting and authentically telling our stories.
It seems surreal to have to remind ourselves to get back behind the lens knowing that’s our strength but that’s where I found myself in the last few weeks setting it as a goal for 2023.
Holding a light box in our hand, raising it to our faces and tuning into the unique way we see the world is why so many of us do what we do. And yet, we get distracted, caught up in the scroll, peering at the greener grass over the fence and lusting over the magic someone is creating on the other side of the world with clients and spaces we would literally never have access to. Then there’s the admin - we find ourselves weighed down by updating our websites, whether our Instagram is looking curated and if our posts read ok.
All of these are important ofcourse, but I bet your true strength is behind that camera… seeing, feeling, practicing, playing, creating and translating.
Dust it off and do the thing you’re great at,

I just spent the last hour scrolling & peering at greener pastures 🙃 then I read this 💛
She’s coming out tomorrow 💛💛
I picked my light box up today and took images I thought I would never would. Documentary style a pile of bills next to a bunch of roses. Today's towels at the clothes line. It was nice to view life so mess and raw. X
